An impeccable classical chamber music performance and the masterful conducting of Spanish maestro Gabriel Delgado—this is what we invite you to experience at the Vilnius University (VU) Chamber Orchestra concert "Across Europe – with Chamber Music", taking place on March 1 at 6:00 PM in the Organum concert hall. The event is organized by the VU Culture Centre.
The concert program promises a journey through European musical traditions and Spanish modernist masterpieces. The evening will begin with Joaquín Turina’s "La Oración del Torero", Op. 34—an emotional and dynamic work of Spanish modernism. The audience will also enjoy Leoš Janáček’s melodic Suite for Strings, which embodies the essence of Czech musical tradition. The concert will conclude with a grand performance of Ottorino Respighi’s Suite for Organ and Strings in G major, where the interplay between the string orchestra and the organ will create a memorable harmony. The organ solo will be performed by the talented organist Živilė Survilaitė.
"By combining the professionalism of the Chamber Orchestra with the experience of conductor G. Delgado, who has worked with international programs, we achieve an excellent result that our audience will surely appreciate. The concert will bring together the warmth of Spanish modernism, the vibrancy of Czech tradition, and the grandeur of Respighi’s Italian heritage—all unified by G. Delgado’s conducting, which adds subtlety, precision, and emotional depth to the music," says Modestas Jankūnas, the director of the VU Chamber Orchestra.
Gintė Jokubaitienė, head of the VU Culture Center, highlights the importance of international partnerships: "International collaboration between universities is not limited to science alone. Culture is also a universal language that connects different countries and academic communities. This concert, conducted by Granados University conductor G. Delgado, is not only an important experience for the musicians of the VU Chamber Orchestra but also a gift to our audience. It is another opportunity for people in Lithuania to explore musical interpretations, discover the musical traditions of different cultures, and experience how international academic dialogue can enrich our daily lives," shares G. Jokubaitienė.
Gabriel Delgado is a Spanish conductor and the leader of the Granada University Orchestra. His international career, spanning performances in Europe and beyond, blends technical precision with profound emotional nuances, inspiring both musicians and audiences alike.
